Jule was a tenured professor of film for 15 years. Her how-to screenwriting books are used in universities and by working writers: Screenplay: Building Story Through Character and Film Genre for the Screenwriter. She has numerous articles in academic journals and served as an editor of Journal of Screenwriting for three years. Her Women Screenwriters: An International Guide, co-edited with Jill Nelmes, is a study of more than 300 female writers from 60 nations, from the first film scenarios produced in 1886 to the present day.
